Born in 1980 & hailing from the small town of Nashville, NC. J Sherrod relocated to the much larger Nashville, TN on October 1, 2005 where he currently resides.

J has been banging on the drums since the tender age of three and is still as passionate about them (and music) as ever. Since age seven he has known there was something inside him that was destined to play music for the rest of his years. Though his love for rock n' roll and heavy metal runs deep, to hold J to one kind of music is impossible. He played in several garage bands from '88-'97 even filling in and playing periodical shows with his uncle's country band. He's played in high school symphonic, pep and jazz bands, finished as third best 8th grade percussionist in Eastern North Carolina's All District Band in '94 with a spot to go to the state finals - only to break his wrist a few weeks before auditions. He also finished in the top five the next two years.

J played snare four years in his high school's marching band, starting a year early in the eighth grade. He was a part of the winning Best NC High School Drumline in 1995 at the Tarheel Invitational. He then went on to attend East Carolina University for one year as a music major. J did not graduate but completed his freshman year before dropping out to learn about music the hard way, on the road!

He co-founded his first real gigging band, Strangelust, in '98 before leaving for a brief stay in Atlanta, GA. in 2001. After returning to NC he co-founded his next band Sourmouth in 2002, which achieved moderate success. Sourmouth disbanded in late '04 and he was a fill-in drummer for NC bands 6X9 and Spade before deciding to move to TN.

After living in his van for a short period of time, J has finally settled in to Nashville. He has recorded drum & percussion tracks on a classical renaissance album for the band The Roses, as well as having sat in for a couple of live performances. He has played one country show with country singer/songwriter Bob Peters and is set to do studio drums on his upcoming CD.

J has yet to find or form a rock band in Nashville but the search is underway. Check back to read more CD & show reviews and to see what his next musical endeavor will be.
