The Milwaukees Create Their Own Buzz
11/25/2007

By: Patrick Steven Patterson
New Jersey-based The Milwaukees are becoming increasingly empowered by the independent
opportunities the rapidly evolving music industry is affording them. A band from New Jersey
that proudly believes in rock 'n' roll's redemptive spirit, The Milwaukees are reaping fast
rewards from their promotional creativity as acclaim continues to build for American
Anthems, Vol. 1, the first release on the band's own City Desk Records
imprint.
By creating a "Captain America's iMix" to accompany a feature on Marvel.com, The
Milwaukees sold more iTunes downloads of "Highway to the Sun" in its first week of release
than its entire back catalogue over the previous three years. The iMix landed the song on
iTunes profiles of fellow American rockers Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Wilco
and The Hold Steady - giving them widespread free promotion with only a few hours of work.
Tunecore, which manages The Milwaukees' digital distribution, then chose to include
"Highway to the Sun" on a free iMix distributed to 7 million subscribers.
In conjunction with their traditional touring, The Milwaukees have created
The Living Room Tour, anew twist on the House Concert movement tailored to younger
audiences. By offering free private performances in the homes of any fan willing to host, the
band is building grassroots anticipation for more full-fledged touring down the road. Within
a week of announcing The Living Room Tour on the band’s websites, dates were booked in
NY, NJ, RI, MA and IL, with more offers being considered from all parts of the country.
