Limbeck, a four-piece band on Doghouse Records, resides in
Southern California, but for this album's inspiration, the band
mates went for a road trip taking pictures and documenting
their encounters with people and places. Their memories are
written into lyrics by the singer, Robb MacLean for the tracks.
By not veering from the true names of people or situations, the
album is like a photo album found in their living room. To
make the album Hi, Everything's Great more
sincere, the final production is kept simple making for a more
natural sound.
The songs bear an alt-country or folk sound a
departure from their previous release in 2001. Steel guitar,
banjo, piano and back up vocals found on the tracks are a far
different experience than the rock sounds familiar to current
fans of Limbeck. This is a perfect album to listen to on the
road with friends or by yourself as you travel from point A to
point B this summer.
The first track, "Honk & Wave" depicts MacLean's thoughts of
his friend as he is traveling through Utah, where she resides.
Continuing eastbound on the interstate, the song ends and
track two begins, leaving the Beehive State behind them as the
band continues their unplanned journey. The last track "Comin'
From Tucson" encompasses life on the road for Robb MacLean
as his band mates sleep through the night and he drives in
silence. This catchy song will make you feel the freedom of
being on the road.
Travel along with Limbeck by listening to Hi, Everything's
Great as the band exposes you to their freedom from
Southern California, encountering memories that are wrapped
up in the songs. This road trip inspired album turns out to be an
excellent accompaniment for your own road trip this summer. |
