Nebraska's Denver Dalley, songwriter/guitarist of Desparecidos
on Saddle Creek Records, debuts with his side project band,
Statistics. The band Desparecidos is currently on hiatus while
front man, Conor Oberst, also of Bright Eyes is back in
collaboration. During this time Denver decided to do his own
thing out of his comfort zone with a new record label,
Jade Tree, and a new sound.
Like other Saddle Creek bands, Denver is now in multiple
bands, growing as an artist. He took his EP to Jade Tree due to
the artists they represent and wanted to work with new people
instead of staying complacent and working with Saddle Creek
Records, showing his independence. He is looking forward to
touring this summer while finishing his full-length album due
out next year. His goal is to finish it by early 2004 so he can
then promote it with a national tour.
Unlike Desparecidos, the sound of this EP is a combination of
electronic, pop and power rock. The first track "Another Day"
mixes all the sounds and draws the listener in before the vocals
even begin [at 1:15]. Then halfway through the track, the
vocals become distorted and unrecognizable with overwhelming
electronic sounds.
Track 3, "Hours Seemed Like Days," Denver's vocals are mixed
with singing and the box distortion which makes a catchy tune
with the melody. The chorus repeats a couple times, letting the
listener get swept away with the song as a whole, instead of
focusing on a message.
Overall this EP is a great range of musical sounds from one
track to the next. Denver flawlessly blends the electronic with
pop making you hooked on his melodies. Pick up this EP
today, and like you, I will be waiting for the full-length next
year. |
