This Progressive~Euro~Trance compilation starts out strong with To Kool Chris (TKC). A good start, as TKC produces the most danceable tracks on the record, keeping you going with strategic beats and fills, especially on "Insomnia by Nightwatchers." The artist also mixes Eminem's "Without Me" with a cool-ass twist. He destroys Sinead O'Connor's "Troy," staying close to the original with the first half, then going off on his own right before the explosion. Overall TKC keeps it going while keeping your attention.
DJ Markski is very poppy and subtle, but he remixes Madonna's "Holiday" with a Madhouse style. Madonna remixes? Come on, can we move on? DJ Markski is the type of spinner that keeps Sarah McLaglan remixes in circulation. For mainly this reason, Markski is the weakest of the three DJs here; very cut and dry with no surprises. I lost his groove in the first few mixes and he did not regain my interest after.
Bobby B is a combination of the two other DJs. He has a slight edge like TKC yet has some of the blandness of Markski. What keeps Bobby B afloat is he has a really nice progression throughout his mixes. He keeps you going without going back on his mixes. Bobby B is fun and more stylish than the other two; yes some of his mixes come out like bland, sappy and therefore annoying.
To Kool Chris, DJ Markski and Bobby B are resident DJ's on Chicago's B96, pulling in about 1.3 million listeners weekly. There are a ton more innovative Club DJ's that are more evolved and interesting, yet this is not a bad find, just nothing to use in your arsenal. The orders of the DJ's are well placed and the record keeps you going, so it does work as a long, 38 song album to put in and forget. It will keep everyone at your party happy.
If you want to hear TKC destroy Sinead O'Connor, or if you want to hear DJ Markski remix yet another Madonna track, by all means go buy this Compilation. You also get a pull-out of TKC standing with his New Mercedes, Bobby B with his new Lexus and DJ Markski with his new Porsche… Man-o-man. |
