Between her introspective lyrics and sophistication, Leona Naess delivers a very powerful album sure to stir one's emotions. Her soft, girlish voice sometimes quivers, and goes from high to low pitch, as the emotional lyrics keep her going from one song to the next. The instruments of guitar, strings and drums are fitting for the soul-searching and heartache lyrics Leona Naess shares with her listeners.
Songs such as "Don't Use My Broken Heart" and "Star Signs" focus on the pain felt of a woman losing her lover. If you are in that situation, this may be an album to listen to - to help cope with a similar feeling, instead of eating a pint of ice cream. We've all been there, feeling there is no happiness in the near future, and music helps us endure. Had this album come out a few years ago, I am sure a few songs would have made it to the television show "Felicity."
Like other songwriters, Leona Naess connects with her audience on a personal level, making each listener take something away from her songs. From this album, many will take away the following sentiment Leona says herself on track 7, "sweet melodies bring bitter memories."
I recommend this album for those cold, dreary days you find yourself alone, and wanting to go into deep meditation about your dramatic love life. |
