The 80s musical influence is coming back. Soon, if not already,
you will see it in fashion (something we can all do without).
However, when it comes to music, a taste of the 1980s
resurging back into today's rock is acceptable by my
standards. Now, I'm not talking of "big hair" or "love ballad"
bands - I'm talking about one band in particular, Ima Robot.
This collaboration of artists stand apart from other bands
currently heard on radio today.
The first track, "Dynomite," caught my attention when I first
heard Ima Robot while catching their music video on television.
The next day I rushed out to find the self-titled record. Of
course, I didn't just hear about Ima Robot this week. I've had
the disc for months now, in my car, in my house, at the gym,
but never having a moment to write a sentence to get the word
out about this LA based band.
"Scream" is one of my favorites to listen to. Alex Ebert's
vocals are reminiscent of the Cars and David Bowie throughout
the album. The guitar and bass elements are catchy, never
feeling repetitive, as each song is its own independent sound.
The momentum picks up as it heads into track six, "Dirty Life."
You'll find yourself singing along to all the songs and the record
as it will not leave your CD player for weeks at a
time.
I got a chance to see Ima Robot live, and I highly recommend
checking them out. Alex's voice is representative of what you'll
hear live or on the record. No overproduction on vocals with
this band. Also, the stage presence of all band members keeps
your eyes glued to them as your feet dance around. Make this
band huge in 2004! |
