Murdock is a straight up rock and roll band in every sense of the word. Hailing from Seattle, WA, they sound nothing like what you think Seattle bands are supposed to sound like. There is no grunge here, not a hint of flannel. But there is metal, and Murdock lays it all on the table with their latest record, Amplification.
Amplification is comprised of nine tracks in under 21 minutes. Do the math, that puts several of the songs under two minutes, and that's just the way it should be. Rock and roll used to be about turning up the guitars and blowing people away, and Murdock wants you to remember that losing your hearing can actually be fun. I shudder to think of this band in a live setting. The songs on Amplification are dripping with the sexy stuff of stereotypical butt-rock excess… loud guitars, screamed vocals, pounding drums, and crazy metal guitar solos a plenty.
"Come Along" kicks off the album with a tasty bent note riff that is so catchy you are hooked from there on out. Each new track is full of high energy, AC/DC meets ZZ Top full out rocking. "Whiskey Business" is a song lamenting the workweek and of course celebrating the arrival of the sacred weekend by doing what else? Getting wasted! Yeah! The rest of the songs fly by at such a pace you might have to listen a few times to be able to tell where one ends and another begins. Amplification was recorded, engineered, mixed, and mastered by the legendary Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney, etc.), and he's done a great job of capturing the energy of the music most people only dream of.
That's right folks, Murdock is all about the partying good time that rock and roll was created for. And if the excess of the rock and roll lifestyle catches up with you, don't worry, because Murdock front man, ALX Karchevsky works as an EMT for his day job.
So, kick ass, drink some beer and pick up Amplification by Murdock if you like to get rocked, and you know you do. |
