If you're a fan of DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid, you won't be surprised. Especially with the combining force of Dave Lombardo, drummer of Slayer, Drums Of Death is an appropriate name for this album, but deceiving. There are far less drums and far less double bass peddle than the name of the album alludes. However, as a DJ Spooky album there is a definite rock sound. Metal guitars are combined with his DJ ambiance, as well as, obviously, drums.

Overall, I expected more. I expected a battle that felt, well, like a battle. I expected something more intense, but this album is fairly laid back. Although most of the tracks are fairly laid back, one true battle seems to come across between Dave and DJ Spooky on Track 10, "Incipit Zarathustra." "The Art Of War" featuring Back To The Lab is also an enjoyable battle featuring the drums.

Overall, the album is almost trance-like. It's progressive rock meets progressive techno in a relaxing form. There is no speed involved. However, this album is still extremely enjoyable. It features a variety of guests like Vernon Reid, Dalek, Back To The Lab, and Ghost Hacked! Out of the 16 tracks, only a handful seem like true battles. If you're looking for a combination of electronic ups and downs, this is the perfect album for you.
