Pattern Is Movement has been compared to bands such as
Death Cab For Cutie and The Sea And Cake, and has
performed at festivals featuring well-known bands such as
Pedro The Lion and Franz Ferdinand. That should give you an
idea of what Pattern Is Movement might sound like, but only
an idea.
I would describe Pattern Is Movement as indie flavored
math-rock. Undoubtedly each member of the band has spent
an endless amount of time studying their instruments and
has individually imagined their collaboration. Multiple
guitarists, keys, drums and, of course, vocals are included in
the bands' resources.
Stowaway provides a la-di-da feel by means of
cello and viola. It can be described simply as a good time,
although an acquired taste that requires appreciation and
understanding - it's an album who's time signatures should
be studied and listened to time and time again. This is a
complex representation of what comes across as simple
notation; it may come across easy, but both in playing along
as well as listening to - Stowaway requires
discipline.
The music reminds me of being lost at the corners of a party
full of people who think they are intelligent and brilliant,
individualistic and somehow unique among the rest of the
attendees, and yet the person who sweeps you off your feet
and appears the most intriguing is the one who says the
simplest of things and generally appears quiet. Yet, these
are simple things that are easily forgotten, yet as masterful
as being reminded of how everything is bullshit and
everything is beautiful, all at once.
It's only the wallflowers at high-speed parties, who think too
much to themselves, that could truly understand. |
