On Just Breathe..., LoveHateHero's debut for
Ferret Records the band stands out, presenting themselves
as a talented screamo-type band, minus the generic
screaming. The singer has an outstanding voice and he
actually uses it rather than spending a majority of the CD
screaming. Although I love screamo, this is a nice change,
and a natural one.
LoveHateHero also stands out as a drug-free band with an
incredible work ethic. The band has been together since the
Winter of 2003 and was signed to Ferret in the winter of
2005 already having a 17-date self booked tour, merch, a
music video and a 10-track CD under their belt. That is far
more than I can say for most independent bands, especially
within the first two years. It seems to me that LoveHateHero
was destined for the stage and knew it.
Lead singer Pierrick Berube sings about his feelings in the
moment. None of his songs are about the past, it's all in the
present. Just Breathe...'s tracks contain his
relatable, emotional lyrics about loss and betrayal - all
personal experiences from Berube's immediate life. The
record is complete with harmonics, outstanding sing-along
melodies, metal riffs, well-placed, occasional screams and
emotional cadences. |
