Move over Simple Plan. Here comes The Awkward Romance. Less poppy but just as endearing, the Georgia quartet have released their debut record that's chock full of radio friendly tracks.
Earnest but not pushy, the songs wash over you like a sugar rush. The guitars knife through the verses before the impassioned vocals take the reins for the chorus.
The band takes on all facets of their career, as they are responsible for graphic design, bookings and all of the music.
All the songs have an emo quality to them, but the band is clearly more than that. "Little Cloud Dog" is the band at their best. Led by an urgent guitar riff, the vocals sail over a well constructed chorus. Lyrics are sometimes odd, though. Sample: "Look, I've lost my way. And ninety-nine didn't stray. Will you come for me. Will you beat the wolves to me again."
12 tracks. No clunkers. Great delivery. What more do you want? |
