One simple, little word can sum up the new Valient Thorr
album. WOW!
The band from Venus landed in North Carolina (where I saw
them perform at small clubs) as they began their conquest
for planetary domination. Since then they've released their
2005 debut Total Universe Man and toured
relentlessly anywhere that would let them preach their
message of rock.
I never paid much attention to these cats nor did I
experience their first album. After hearing their sophomore
album Legend Of The World for the first time,
all this will change.
"Heatseaker" starts the record with a bang - containing great
lyrics like "This motherfucker wants to Rock 'N' Roll!" Ain't
that what we all want? Lots of change-ups in this song keep
you right there, wonderin' what's comin' next. "Rezerrection"
is straight outta the 70's with a very Thin Lizzy sound. Guitar
harmonies are plentiful while goin' from nice chunky riffs to
straight ahead rock. The late Phil Lynott would be proud of
this one.
The first two tracks are awesome, but for me the fun really
begins with the third cut. Though I personally don't agree
with the lyrics for "Exit Strategy," I don't let them damage
what a great song this is. Vocalist Valient Himself voices his
views on the war so masterfully that you have to give him
respect. Halfway through the song the drummer shows us
his incredible chops as he unleashes his fury upon the kit.
Damn what a great song!
"Lime Green Net" starts out with somethin' resembling Ram
Jam/Starstruck's "Black Betty" before goin' into what
resembles a Motorhead riff. Killer guitar solo in this song.
"Goveruptcy" reminds me of somethin' Mike Muir (Suicidal
Tendencies) would concoct. From the way Valient Himself
brings "You don't have to buy it/You just need to hear my
words," and "All the knowledge you can handle for $19.95!" -
I'd have to break out the thesaurus just to find enough cool
words to praise this song. "False Profits" follows up in much
the same vibe. It almost makes ya feel like you're in a Rock
'N' Roll church. All I can say is: Preach Brother Valient,
Preach! Amen!
Crammed full of thoughtful and well-articulated lyrics, furious
drums, classic guitar riffs and tasty solos, this CD is twelve
tracks of pure rock madness. Valient Thorr's newest attempt
at world salvation through Rock 'N' Roll is a success. The
future is bright my brothers. |
