Having followed I Am Ghost for the last year, I have to
admit that I had little faith that I would find their new
full-length, Lovers' Requiem, among my
favorites list.
I Am Ghost formed in late 2004, self-promoting their EP,
We Are Always Searching. To their surprise, I
Am Ghost sold 20,000 copies of their EP and were signed by
Epitaph Records. Now, having recorded their first full-length
album with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Incubus,
Chevelle) this last summer, I can only suggest that I Am
Ghost brace themselves for an even more unexpected
amount of positive attention.
I Am Ghost features violin - ala Yellowcard - combined with
occasional female backup vocals ala Evanescence. They
have a look that is entirely hardcore with a dash of My
Chemical Romance and a pinch of AFI. They have harmonies
reminiscent of HIM and Avenged Sevenfold. Yet, all these
comparisons mean nothing, hardly a comparison. I Am
Ghost is truly, in their own right, one of a kind. |
