Sometimes I wish I were an A&R guy for a record company. I
would try to sign bands that would otherwise get ignored. One
band I feel for the most part gets ignored by the hardcore
world at large compared to just how good they are is Life In
Your Way. I really didn't know how these guys slipped under
my radar.
Life In Your Way plays a style of melodic hardcore that sounds
like a mixture of Strongarm, Thrice and Shai Hulud. At times
angular and at times very melodic, yet very much hardcore. I
can't really pinpoint what the main strengths of the band are,
just because they're so well rounded in every area. The
vocalists' screams are convincing (which is hard in hardcore
lately) and the sung vocals are solid and well rounded. The
breakdowns are brutal and the delicate parts are heart
wrenching. This may sound like a warning label to some
hardcore fans, but I would encourage them to listen to their
second album for Indianola Records, Ignite And
Rebuild, so they could see this is hardly child's play
unlike other bands who scream and sing.
Venture into the record's lyrical content and it's very obvious
they're a band that sings about their relationship with Jesus
Christ. But much like their music, the way the subject matter is
written and how it's portrayed would make it very hard for a
listener to discount or possibly disrespect their point of view as
it is hardly preachy but almost introspective.
All of their strongest points as a band converge in their song
"Threads of Sincerity," which starts out with a very catchy lead
guitar line over a brutal breakdown that moves into double
time and quickly moves into a melodic swell of movement. It's
times like this where Life In Your Way will always keep your
attention with sudden changes, catchy choruses and aggressive
breakdowns.
This band deserves to be in a much better place than they are
right now. They deserve to be on bigger tours because they
are one of the most talented bands in the genre right now
alongside bands like As Cities Burn, Maylene and The Sons of
Disaster Definitely. This is a worthy pick. |
