Of course when you hear She Wants Revenge you think Bauhaus, Joy Division and Interpol, laced with a hints of The Faint. Of course there has been many attempts to compare this band to those bands. You would be hard pressed to find a band you can't compare to something. The truth is, She Wants Revenge does not stray too far from the Bauhaus mold. What She Wants Revenge has these bands don't? Pure lyrical brutality, music that exposes the darkest corners of sexuality, almost if the Marquis de Sade and Daniel Ash had a love child. The record is unrestrained, unforgiving, dark and danceable… Lyrics reminiscent of a serial killers lament. Adam sums it up: "We're both fans of music and we made the album we wanted to hear. Everything you get on record and live is very, very honest. And artistic output that is truthful can only elicit truthful responses… people know, the kids know when they're being lied to, when something feels manufactured as opposed to being made. We are those kids."

It is strange to think that She Wants Revenge hails from the San Fernando Valley. Childhood friends Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin met in 1986 running around listening to everything from Run DMC, Prince, Depeche Mode and The Cure. They would bump into each other year after year and talk of starting a band; this would not come to fruition until 17 years later, when they finally belted down to form She Wants Revenge.

Regardless of history, this is an album you must hear. Yes, She Wants Revenge sounds like Interpol… Sure they are not setting a new post-punk/new wave tradition. Who cares? It is music, and this is music at its best.
