Following in the footsteps of The White Stripes is the Moggs from California. The two piece outfit is Sir Plus (Justin Millar) who does vocals and guitars, along with Miss Minor (Cara LP) who is credited with drums, guitars and vocals. The duo is reportedly married and has played together for over 10 years.
The White Belt Is Not Enough apparently took over four years to create, with the recording taking place at the hallowed Abbey Road Studios in London. Opening with an instrumental, "Intro to Hollywood," the band takes its time, working at a measure pace, almost so as to not overwhelm us right off the top.
Among the better cuts: The choppy guitar chords of "Lynbrook" work well against the laid back vocals of Sir Plus. The pleasant cacophony of "Disco" is surprisingly good as is the jazz-ish drum-powered "All About the Feeling," another instrumental. The fuzz-ridden guitar of "Take Take Take" kicks off the first vocal on the record by Miss Minor, who has a confident but relaxed voice.
This is a record that is better than average but still sort of underwhelming. |
