Minneapolis-based Shotgun Monday is Jon Kelson (ex-Calvin
Krime on AmRep which included Sean Tillman, spawning Sean
Na Na and Har Mar Superstar.) He's joined by Bob Eisenbise
(ex-Kill Sadie, whose members also went on to form Pretty
Girls Make Graves, Minus The Bear and These Arms Are
Snakes), Mickey Kahleck from Camp Surreal/Red Light Go and
Brooks Nagel who has played in several Twin Cities
bands.
Shotgun Monday basically consists of Mom's Sunday leftovers -
a bunch of "Oh yea, that was good..." memories that may or
may not sit well the second time around. All in all you get sick
of having pizza all the time, and I'm getting sick of unemotional
post-emo indie bands. Depending on the fan of course, Shotgun
Monday may be what you prefer. It's definitely underground.
It's definitely indie. It's raw. It's not as emotional as I think it
should be or even could be, as if it's a little too rehearsed or
maybe even a little too simple. These nine tracks sound like a
Zach Braff movie minus the content.
Who am I kidding? I think this album is meant to be a joke -
like the song titles. I think they are thought out senseless
babble, like getting dressed up to look like you weren't trying
to impress anyone - such as, "Time for a Sandwich" and "Shit
Shave Shower Shine." Let's sing along shall we - "Here today
we're going to talk hygiene and how to wash your body wash
your hair wash your face wash your knees wash behind your
knees wash your hands wash your arms wash your ham wash
your pussy but most of all those goddamned pearly teeth and
floss."
Wow. I learned a lot. I'm inspired - hygienically. My question is
though, since when did hardcore kids start showering? |
