Moby's cool. First of all, he's a geek. Geeks are cool. At least I hope they are or else I'm very much in trouble. Second, he's bald (like me), literate (like me) and one of the most influential musicians of this new century (like me, err, well, no, not like me unless you count my musical wizardry of playing "Greensleeves" on my mother-in-law's organ).

You don't know Moby? You haven't heard his music? Oh, I'm sure you have. A few years ago a little album called Play came out. He sold oodles of songs from that album for commercials and movie soundtracks. You might have bought a Chevrolet or a pair of sneakers partly because of Moby's music. And Play is very much represented in Go - The Very Best of Moby, as well as his other popular albums, including Everything is Wrong, 18 and the unheralded marvel that is Hotel, as well as other neat tunes (his "New York, New York" features the vocal stylings of Debbie Harry).

So what of the album itself? Pretty awesome if you like Moby and/or innovative dance-able techno music that could just as easily cater to high school students as middle-aged folks with a streak of childhood left in them. "Porcelain," "South Side," "Lift Me Up" and many more songs complete the 2-CD set. You get remixes, too!

What I wish would be more of his quiet, vocal-less tunes on the album, the ones that are emotive and beautiful. Hear some of the later tracks of Play and much of Hotel to know the kinds of songs I'm referring to. It's evocative stuff, and just as important to the Moby catalogue as "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" and "Honey." Perhaps that'll come on another greatest hits album.

Until then, Moby, keep being geeky and great and if you want to sample some of my organ music give me a call.
