The night began early with doors opening at 7:30pm. Five bands were on the line-up to perform for approximately 200 people at the all ages show that night at the DV8. With it being a holiday weekend, and a concert at the local amphitheatre, those who came to see the show were in for a treat. In order of performance: The Drips, Soundtrak, Damone, Hey Mercedes and Sense Field headlining, the atmosphere intensified as the night went on. Each set lasted about 45 minutes with the exception of the opener.

After The Drips performed, Soundtrak took hold of the stage and caught us all off-guard. The four-piece indie band led by a left-handed guitarist with unique vocal styling had the audience as they listened and moved along to the melodies. Each tune was different than the last and even as the lead guitarist broke a string, he kept going without hesitation to not lose any of the energy in the room. After their set, the audience gave Soundtrak a warm applause for a job well done.

Damone, who recently played on this year's Warped Tour, were the next band to rock the stage. The only band that night with female vocals, Noelle LeBlanc and her band mates enjoyed themselves. The catchy songs along with the vocals pumped into the venue. Since most people came to see the last two remaining bands, it was great to see them enjoy Damone as well.

Hey Mercedes took the stage next. The lead singer only had a two hour slumber from the previous night, but he went on despite his lack of energy. Even though the connection wasn't made between the band and the audience, they still played a good show. I would like to see them again and hopefully it will be like they are there to play for their fans, instead of just playing to people.

Finally at 11:05pm, Sense Field went on. From the time the band began, the audience was into the moment. John, the lead vocalist, sensed it and ran with it. Leaning downstage, he and the audience shared the microphone for several songs of pure punk rock. A girl jumped on stage to dance with John as well as a guy stage-dove and tried to body surf the crowd, but alas no one wanted to hold him up.

It was a great night in Salt Lake City to have these bands come and play for the locals. I only hope I'll be able to enjoy many more shows with line-ups just as great to start and end a night. I would say my money was well worth the experience.
