Modest Mouse kicked off their headlining tour on January 21st at Vanderbilt University's first annual benefit show, the Commodores Care Concert, a fundraiser for the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.

Modest Mouse is the epitome of an indie band thriving in the underground with seven albums going unrecognized by Top-40 radio. Recently the band (Isaac Brock - Vocals, Ukulele, Guitar, Banjo, Baritone Guitar; Eric Judy - Bass, Mellowtron, back-up vocals, Acoustic Guitar, tin-whistle; Dann Gallucci - Guitar, Drum Loops, back-up Vocals, keyboards; Benjamin Weikel - drums; and stand-in Tom Peloso - Fiddle, upright bass) has had phenomenal success with their sophomore major label full-length release, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, which is nominated for a 2004 Best Alternative Album Grammy. Not to mention that the commercial breakthrough single "Float On" is also nominated as Best Alternative Song.

Ironically, the height of the new albums success makes it almost shocking to hear that Modest Mouse is playing at Vanderbilt University. The evenings concert captivated the sold-out crowd's attention from the get go. Pulling from an eight album catalog, Modest Mouse played tracks such as "Paper Thin Walls," "Out of Gas," "Float On" and "Ocean Breaths Salty."

Modest Mouse has a moody and aggressive style that is spreading like wildfire. The chemistry of these four musicians has given unconventional songwriters the possibility of radio airplay. And aside from the honors of the new single and album are receiving, Modest Mouse says, "The Good Times Are Killing Me."
