Currently touring with The Nurses and Vendetta Red, Finch finds themselves in good musical company and in hard competition. The Nurses were entertaining despite their dependence on their digital vocalizer (but then again, who isn't?). Being a three-piece band, there was really no movement at all, but The Nurses were excited and passionate. They were obviously a band new to the road and absolutely stoked to have people responding to their music. There was that new band energy between the stage and the crowd. This made their appearance easily worth it. Almost immediately after The Nurses left the stage we were introduced to a whole new level of live performance, Vendetta Red.

Vendetta Red is a band you either love or hate when listening to their CD. It's something you catch onto or feel as if you aren't missing much, but these boys go all out and far beyond their call of duty when performing live. Fan or not, this is worth seeing. Every single band member was rocking out despite the oversold, sweat-drenched environment you often experience at Salt Lake City's very own Lo-Fi Cafe. The temperature rose and a literal wave of heat was streaming off the stage, tossed around among the mosh pit and then thrown in the glistening faces of the remaining fans - standing in awe as if to say, "Who are these guys?" Well, if you didn't know them then, you sure as hell know them now. The one and only Vendetta Red put Finch's performance to the test.

And alas, Finch! If you go to a show to find a band sounding exactly like their CD, then this is the show for you. Finch, to my surprise, sounded just like someone had thrown in a mix of their songs and pumped it through an oversized sound system. Fans quickly responded. Everyone seemed to be singing along, and instead of joining his fans in the moment, the lead singer seemed to kick back and let the crowd take over. I suppose that makes his job an easy one - pacing the stage back and forth, singing every other word. After the first few songs, "diehard" fans of Finch seemed bored and started filtering out the door. There was nothing to see, so why not just listen from outside? People seemed more excited for the occasional free bottled water being tossed from stage. You could blame the hot and humid environment, except that Vendetta Red seemed to own it completely! Overall, Finch provided a heartfelt sing along and that's about it. Vendetta Red is the real energy behind this tour.
