The best way to describe seeing Limbeck is like visiting old friends. You may not talk to them everyday or even every month, but when you do, it is as if you've never been apart. Fortunately, the bands that play with Limbeck also bring about that same BFF energy. It was like a night spent with your best friends from high school, assuming you have been out of high school for some time.

Doing the opening honors were Utah locals, The Yearbook. Their brand of pop rock will get the unknowledgeable listener dancing, but that's only if you don't watch the band. This was my third time seeing The Yearbook play and I was still bored by their performance. The music isn't bad - typical radio- friendly pop rock - but the band has no stage presence or charisma.

Following the Yearbook was another local band, The Annuals. Their first song was slow, unassuming and had me fearful that we were in for a night a boring opening acts. Fortunately, that all flipped around by their second song. With their raucous, poetic, alt-country, the Annuals added some much needed energy to the room. They may not have had the room dancing, but they definitely had their attention. Their high-energy set culminated in an almost impromptu instrumental song, at which point the audience was witness to the personalities of the band and the fact that they legitimately enjoy playing.

Limbeck definitely fed off the energy generated by The Annuals. They played a few old songs and a few new songs and took time to reply to shout out requests. The band definitely has a very informal stage presence. It doesn't matter if you don't personally know the band, you feel as though you do. They enjoy being on stage, they enjoy playing and they enjoy telling stories about camping in the van at the Grand Canyon, being almost "killedses" by "elkses, mooses and deerses." They are one of the few bands that can talk on stage and not be annoying. It is this informality that makes their alt-country, pop rock so much fun to be witness to and listen to at home.
