The show started with instant disappointment - for me taking
a phone call and missing a parking space, therefore coming
in after The New Nervous had started. The front door staff
greeted me as if I had missed the entire set of the sole band
I was there to see, "Oh good, you're finally here!" I grabbed
my friend and asked him how late I was - thankfully this was
only their second song. I gave the staff a smirk. They can't
fool me, and yet here I was - nervous!
Nervous with a rushing degree of anxiety, here to see and
review the hands down, most talented band I know - signed
or unsigned - now known as The New Nervous.
I bullied my way to the front and watched in awe. I thought
to myself, "Is this love?" I find myself in a fantasy with this
music, taken by Scott's voice and absorbed by key and
tempo changes. This is a band that leaves me speechless. I
struggle for any amount of right words to say. They are a
band waiting to explode, where I will eventually see them
headline in much larger venues and proudly acknowledge, "I
knew those guys, back in the day. I've been listening to
them for years!" So there!
Compact with creativity and talent, a sound entirely like no
other, and their all-cute guys. I mean, as much as that
shouldn't matter, it really does. I watched girls stand
hopeful, second row, right in the spotlight smiling and
dancing with a glow to say, "Notice me!" All this for a band of
a local level. But it is all well-deserved, as they are the
secret of Provo - not best kept, so spread the word and
prepare to dive into an enigmatic array of emotional indie
goodness.
